“After a few weeks of trying, I found out what was holding me back. It was skill.”
The world is divided about a lot of things, but we can probably all agree that Hamish Blake is the best.
There was the time he stayed up for hours making six-year-old Sonny an Aladdin Cave of Wonder birthday cake, complete with a torch to light up its eyes and yawning jaws. And then there’s his delightful nerdiness as the host of LEGO Masters whenever he fanboys for judge, Ryan “The Brickman” McNaught.
It will probably surprise no one that Hamish did something super adorable on Instagram in honour of his wife, Zoe Foster Blake, and the first movie they watched together.
Following in the footsteps of the contestants on the show, Hamish built a LEGO EVE from nothing but a pile of white bricks and his imagination. He built a WALL-E too, but he had a kit for that, so you know, not as impressive.
Actually he tried to build an EVE.

“You’re only limited by what you can ask Brickman to build for you”
If you haven’t seen WALL-E, EVE is a little white robot who visits post-apocalyptic earth, responding to a beacon telling her that the barren planet might be ready for vegetation.
The movie is largely without dialogue, which makes it even more incredible how moving the friendship and love between the robots is.
WALL-E is one of the first movies Hamish watched with Zoe, and he really wanted to build her an EVE.
“I wanted to build EVE, from WALL-E the movie, as a surprise for my wife… It’s pretty hard to build EVE BUT, if I pulled it off, I would be a hero,” he posted on Instagram.

“After a few weeks of stealing lots of parts from the Brick Pit on the show, I was ready to try and get her going.
“Wow, it was so hard. But I was determined not to let my wife down. I tried and tried and was ABOUT to give up but then, one day, I discovered the secret of getting past my block. I found out what was holding me back. It was my skill.”
Hamish turned to Ryan McNaught, AKA The Brickman.
“With me out of the picture, the project took off! He made what you see in about an hour!
“It’s like I tell kids, what you can make out of LEGO is only limited by what your imagination can think of to ask Brickman to build.”
Truer words were never spoken.

“We all need a Brickman in our lives!”
Some people seem to have missed the second part of the post in which Hamish said he didn’t actually make EVE.
“Hands down my favourite kids movie,” wrote one person. “Nice job!”
But others know Hamish and his skill with LEGO too well.
“My favourite LEGO build you have done would definitely have to be the LEGO man you made with dogs for hands and feet,” someone wrote.
“We all need a brick man in our lives!” wrote another.
And this person took the words right out of our mouths. “This is the cutest.”
