“Put a wine rack there to store towels … or wine. Because we’ve all spent time hiding in our bathroom drinking right?”
Sometimes the internet delivers utter rubbish, and sometimes it’s the absolute best.
Case in point: a mum in a Kmart hacks group posted an innocent question about an awkward space in her bathroom and almost 500 people responded, not with helpful suggestions (because the space is ridiculously useless) but with comedy gold.
“Not a hack, just wondering what people put in these areas in their bathroom? TIA,” she wrote on the Kmart Hacks and Decor Facebook page.
The space in question was between her bathroom vanity and shower screen, and it was about 10 centimetres wide. Even worse, there was a step up into the space at the same height as the shower floor, because why not?
Some suggested she could store dust in the space, while others said it looked the width of a wine rack. “We have all spent time hiding in our bathroom drinking right … “ wrote one person.

“Fake grass from IKEA?”
Suggestions involving alcohol were popular and, let’s be honest, practical.
“Wine rack to put rolled towels in,” said one person.
“Or wine in,” responded another.
Such a wide variety of suggestions in this creative group! Photo: Facebook
Some people tried to give her real suggestions, but no one could hide the fact that the space was utterly ridiculous.
“IKEA have fake grass that would fit perfectly there,” said one person, adding a laughing emoji.
“If you have a toilet in your bathroom maybe a place to store toilet rolls?” said another.
Others cut straight to the point.
“My happiness … my gap there is so small and impossible to clean. Designed by men to make my life a living hell.”
“Pubes,” said another. “No offence but I have a stupid space like this and it just collects all hubby’s pubes/chest hair as well as dust bunnies and my long hairs.”
Another woman confused the group. “My cutting boards and biscuit trays for the oven,” she wrote.
“In the bathroom???” someone responded while another added an emoji of a confused face.

“A school shirt, three old socks …”
One woman kept coming back with better and better lists of things that could be stored in the space.
“Six five cent pieces, a rolled up tissue, a hairbrush, two more odd socks, a barbie doll, a pair of earphones,” she listed.
“A school shirt, three odd socks, dust bunnies, winning lotto ticket,” she continued.
“But it would be water damaged so it probably wouldn’t scan,” she wrote. Clearly this woman has a taste for irony.
Someone suggested the gap was useful. “I believe they are like this so you can clean the shower screen,” she said.
But nobody bought it.
“I always look at these unnecessary gaps and think a man must have designed the bathroom! Haha,” one woman said. “Like they were measuring and were like, yeah, that’s good enough lol.
“Not meaning to be sexist but I feel a woman would make sure the space was a) usable or b) easier to clean …”
